Privacy Policy

Introduction

Sailing Logbook is a personal sailing logbook application. This privacy policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

Information We Collect

Account information: Your email address, used for authentication and account recovery.

Profile information (optional): Name, home location, and certifications. You choose what to provide.

Sailing log entries: Date, boat name, boat type, boat model, club, location, distance, duration, motor horsepower, gross tonnage, wind speed, wind direction, crew names, and notes. Only the date and boat name are required; all other fields are optional.

GPS data (optional): If you enable GPS recording in the iOS app, we store latitude and longitude coordinates, GPS tracks (containing coordinates, speed, heading, and altitude), and calculated distance and duration.

What we do not collect: We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, or any third-party tracking services. No usage data or behavioral analytics are collected.

How We Use Your Data

• To provide the sailing logbook service: storing, displaying, and managing your sailing log entries.
• To authenticate your account and keep it secure.
• We may occasionally use your email address for important service announcements or to notify you of new features. We do not send marketing emails.

Data Storage and Security

• Your data is stored in Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the US.
• Account credentials are managed by AWS. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plaintext.
• Sailing log entries and GPS tracks are stored in AWS. All data
• All data is transmitted over HTTPS (encrypted in transit).
• Each user can only access their own data. There are no shared, social, or community features.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, share, or disclose your data to any third parties. Your data is only accessible by you and by the app operator for the sole purpose of providing and maintaining the service.

Amazon Web Services processes data as an infrastructure provider under their own privacy policy and terms of service.

Your Rights

• Access and export: You can view all your data in the app and export all entries as a CSV file at any time.
• Correction: You can edit any log entry at any time.
• Deletion: You can delete individual entries or delete your entire account and all associated data from the Settings page. Account deletion is permanent and irreversible.

Cookies and Local Storage

The web app uses browser localStorage to store authentication tokens and cache user preferences. No third-party cookies are used.

The iOS app stores authentication tokens in the device Keychain and app preferences in UserDefaults. No third-party tracking SDKs are included.

Children's Privacy

This service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Your continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
